A Tap At The Door

By Quinn Taylor
A tap at the door
Silence
Another knock,
More silence
More banging,
More intense,
More urgent,
More silence.

There is no answer,
There never will be,
No one will come,
And yet the knocking continues.
It will always continue,
There will always be hope,
It may be fruitless,
but the hope will continue.

The indomitable human spirit?
No, naivety.
We hope for an answer,
Beg, pray, scream,
Nothing comes.
Sometimes there is no answer,
Maybe no one is home?
No one is there to answer?
Maybe someone is there,
But they have nothing to offer.
And so, the knocking continues,
Ignored.

Always ignored,
Always alone,
No one can help you,
You're on your own.
Deal with it.
Fight, if you want,
Hide, run, something,
In the end,
The only answer,
Must come from within.

Its time to stop knocking,
Time to stop chasing the answer,
To break the loop,
To walk away from the door,
No one is coming,
Why keep trying?
Walk away,
Run,
Go as far as you can,

The door,
The idea of an answer,
These things consume people,
So you must run,
You must escape,
Take the pain you feel and fight it,
Only you can stop it,
Kick, punch, and scream
Eventually you'll find the answer,
But only in yourself.
So stop knocking,
Run, fight, and live.
