Remarkable People

by Mac Briley

The classrooms in Station Camp High School are nothing remarkable.

In fact, they're quite boring.

The grey cinder block walls have an anxiety inducing sense of foreboding to them.

It relies on the teachers to spruce them up.

But there is one spot,

In one classroom,

Where the teacher has tried a little too hard to brighten the room

To get students interested

In some dumb thing.

In the back corner, friendships are made.

This corner, without the girls in it, is the same as every other.

Boring.

The 8 desks arranged in a circle by themselves hold nothing special,

but when the girls arrive, the chairs are filled with wonder,

Filled with snacks,

Filled with hope,

And laughter,

And happiness.

These girls are:

An established author who gets upset if you mispronounce her book title,

A self proclaimed dictator with a wild imagination,

A tiny nerd with a dumb hat,

A quiet journalist with stickers littering her laptop,

A little girl who's a little too obsessed with domestic violence,

A romance writer with an affinity for slam poetry,

A writer with an idea and no motivation,

And

A girl with a melancholy expression because she holds more happiness than her face can show.

Together, they are hungry, psychopaths, murderers, authors, and most importantly: Friends.

Memories are made, food and feelings are shared.

Though, their teacher is speaking

About something they already know,

They simply don't care.

Because, who cares about English lessons when we have stories to share?
